When to use this

Use Black Redaction when information must never be recoverable — an account number, a name, anything confidential. Use White Correction when you just need to fix a visible typo or outdated detail and want it to look like it was always correct.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. 1Upload your PDF Each page renders in the editor so you can work directly on top of it.
  2. 2Choose Black or White on the Redact tab "Black (Permanent)" draws a solid redaction box. "White (Correction)" draws a white box to cover a mistake — the tool shows a warning that white boxes are for corrections, not for securely hiding confidential information.
  3. 3Draw your box Click and drag over the area — a small drag (under 4×4px) is discarded, and you can click an existing box afterward to move, resize, or delete it, with full undo/redo available.
  4. 4For corrections, switch to the Text tab Choose "✨ Match Nearby Text" to automatically pick up the nearby font size and color, or "🎨 Custom Style" to set your own font, size, color, and formatting. Click to place your replacement text and type it in.
  5. 5Download your edited PDF Every page is rendered into the final file as a flattened image — the redacted or corrected content is genuinely gone, not just covered.

Tips for best results

  • ✓"Match Nearby Text" reliably picks up font size and text color from content near where you click, but bold, italic, underline, and alignment always start at their defaults — apply those manually from the formatting toolbar if the original text had them.
  • ✓Use the eyedropper tool at any time to sample an exact color directly from the page, in either style mode.
  • ✓Zoom in before drawing small redaction boxes for precise placement over exactly the right text.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ⚠Using White Correction to hide something confidential — it's designed for visible corrections, and the tool explicitly warns it isn't meant for securely removing sensitive information; use Black Redaction for that.
  • ⚠Not knowing that every downloaded page becomes a flattened image — this genuinely removes redacted text, but it also means the entire document loses selectable, searchable, and screen-reader-accessible text everywhere, not just in the edited areas.
